Every year, The Economic Times publishes a list of India’s most trusted service brands. This list predominantly features large businesses, including India’s biggest conglomerates and multinational corporations. This is to be expected, as becoming one of India’s most trusted service brands typically requires an extensive pan-India presence—something that only large corporations can achieve.

However, I’ve often wondered why there aren’t similar lists focused on top brands based on their city of origin. By “city-based,” I mean businesses that were founded or have their headquarters in a particular city. These brands serve the local community and, in some cases, extend their services to the rest of the country and even the world. They are an integral part of every city, and our cities—and lives—would feel incomplete without them.

There are initiatives that recognize the best city-based brands within specific business categories. For example, the Times Food Awards highlight the best hotels and restaurants in a city. Similarly, awards are given to businesses in real estate, advertising, and other sectors. However, there is a lack of comprehensive lists that compile top city-based brands across all categories. Having lived in Hyderabad for the past seven years, I have personally experienced the services of many local brands and have read about many others. Below is a list of my Top 25 Hyderabadi brands.

It didn’t take long for me to compile this list—the names almost wrote themselves. This is the power of top brands: their influence extends beyond the superior products and services they offer, capturing the consumer’s mind share.
